Chandigarh, 10 October: World Mental Health Day was celebrated in National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh on the theme of “Making Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority”. In lieu of WMHD 2022, different events were conducted in 4 days. On first day, primary school students at Dadu Majra were educated regarding “Good touch & bad touch”, Dr. Akhilesh Sharma discussed problems of youth in senior classes followed by laughter therapy session with students. On second day, Drug exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Debasish Basu, Head of the Psychiatry department. For this event nukkar natak and funny videos prepared by nursing students were also played. Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Officiating Principal, NINE and faculty appreciated the efforts of B.Sc. nursing-3rd year and Post basic nursing -2nd year students. On third day, a visit was conducted by members of mental health team of NINE to senior citizen home, sector-15, Chandigarh. Senior citizens enjoyed antakshri session with team members. Gratitude cards and refreshments were given to inmates. On fourth day, nursing students and teachers participated in the walkathon at Sukhna lake. Nukkad natak was presented by students to create awareness among adolescents regarding mental health issues.
On fifth day, health talks were delivered to patients regarding mental health issues by students in New OPD & DDTC OPD. On same day, panel discussion was conducted on adolescent mental health issues. For this event, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, Dean Academics addressed the audience on the WMHD theme. Prof. Shubhmohan Singh, Additional professor, Department of Psychiatry; Dr. Nidhi Chauhan, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry; & other NINE experts addressed the adolescents on mental health issues which was followed by open session by the adolescent group. After this event, balloon releasing ceremony by tying their wishes was conducted in open air by all participants to make WMHD memorable.
Whole week events were planned and executed successfully by Dr. Sunita Sharma, Associate professor, Dr. Nitasha Sharma, Mrs. Renu Sharma, Mrs. Mukta Thakur, Mrs. Jasmeet Kaur and Mrs. Anamika . It was appreciated by all days participants and they found it very informative.
